Software I use, gadgets I love, and other things I recommend.

I get asked a lot about the things I use to build software, stay productive, or buy to fool myself into thinking I'm being productive when I'm really just procrastinating. Here's a big list of all of my favorite stuff.

Workstation

  • 13” MacBook Air, Apple M1, 8GB RAM (2020)

I was using an old Windows laptop before this monster and the difference is night and day. I've never had speed issues with this thing, even under the incredibly heavy loads I put it through photo editing and video rendering.

Development tools

  • Visual Studio Code

I don't care if it's missing all of the fancy IDE features everyone else relies on, Visual Studio Code is still one of the best text editors ever made.

  • Windows Subsystem for Linux

Allows Windows developers to work in a Linux environment without having to deal with the overhead of a virtual machine or dual-boot system. It's a must-have when I'm working on cross-platform development

Design

  • Figma

I started using Figma as just a design tool but now it's become my own virtual whiteboard. Never would have expected the collaboration features and the prototyping tools to be the real hook.

Productivity

  • Notion

Innovative note-taking app. Used it throughout college and projects to keep my thoughts straight. I've since incorporated it into the rest of my life. It's the Visual Studio Code of the note-taking app world.

  • iOS Focus

Simple tool for blocking distracting apps and websites when I need to do the work and get some momentum going.
